NATSIR'S NATURE SCHOOL

The socio-economic situation leaves many families hopeless and deters many parents from sending their children to school. When living in a system where one must pay a lot of money to get employed, parents of farmer backgrounds oftentimes see it pointless to educate their children, instead preferring their kids to work in the garden. Because of this hopelessness and lack of support from parents, it is very difficult to motivate students to come to class and learn, however in Tana Toraja we have something special which provides the youth with an extra opportunity.

 

Toraja sees many tourists passing through every year. This provides people with the opportunity to work as guides, however English is a necessity. Right now, people come from other islands like Bali and Java, to work as tour guides in Toraja. It is our desire to train the local youth in English and tourism, giving them the opportunity to take back local jobs and be employed without having to contribute to a corrupt system. 

 

Since 2008, Natsir's Nature School has been running to provide the youth of Tana Toraja with a brighter future by offering free English courses to any person motivated to learn. We have a wide range of courses on offer, though they are subject to demand. Currently, we are running a fun and games class for young kids in the village, as well as small conversational classes.
