Visas
Visa On Arrival
When you enter Indonesia with a Visa On Arrival, you will have the option to pay for it.
Paying for your visa allows you to extend the visa for another 30 days.
Extending your visa should take three days.
It can be done as soon as you arrive, and should be done no later than one week before expiry.
You must go to an immigration office with your passport and a copy of an exit ticket.
They will ask you to fill out a form, and they will take your photo and fingerprints.
Social Visa
The Social Visa gives you sixty days and is extendable every thirty days up to four times.
You will need a sponsor to write you a letter of invitation, and provide you with a photocopy of his/her ID.
You will need to go with your sponsor to the same immigration office every time you extend the visa.
Getting Here
1. Take a flight to Makassar
2. Take a bus from Makassar to Makale
There are a number of bus companies that take the route between Makassar and Toraja
You can take a taxi from the airport to one of the bus companies' terminals
Busses depart from 8-10am and 8-10pm
The trip takes around 8-10 hours
3. If you're coming to join us, we'll pick you up from the terminal!
Getting Around
Getting around Tana Toraja is easy and inexpensive!
1. You can take an ojek (motorbike taxi) for a small cost, depending on distance
2. You can catch a pete-pete (small blue van) to take you around town for 4,000 IDR
3. You can take a kijang (dark blue car) to get between main cities and remote villages 5,000-10,000 IDR
Weather
Hiring a Guide
The temperature in Tana Toraja remains steady throughout the year at around mid 20's
It is generally warm during the day and slightly cooler at night
One warm sweater or a couple of layers will be enough to keep you warm during the night
The rain season is from November to April and usually sees heavy storms in the late afternoon

Tours can be customised to your interests, and can be private or in a group.
The following prices are in total, not per person:
400,000 IDR to hire a guide for a customised day tour
&
400,000 IDR to hire a car for the day tour
If you are travelling alone or in a couple, it may work out cheaper to arrange a private tour by motorbike.
The following price is per person:
50,000 IDR/hour for a customised tour of Tana Toraja (by motorbike)
Trekking packages are also available.
